The Best Singer-Songwriter You Never Heard – Matthew Charles Miller – plays at the Commodore Hotel
Matthew Charles Miller is as real as the wind. He takes the listener on a lifelong journey in the length of a song. Every song is a painting: his guitar – the colors, his words – the brushstrokes, and only we, the listeners – can behold the canvas he paints in front of our eyes. Some paintings are joyous. Some are heart-wrenching, yet each is painted with raw emotion that touches your soul.
One of the first to recognize his talents was David Lynn Jones, who wrote “Living in the Promiseland”, made famous by Willie Nelson.www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjN5nYtbixU
Jones has encouraged his creativity and challenged him to “use his brilliant mind to write lyrics and to learn to play the guitar.”
Another prominent music industry figure, Jerry Bone, co-produced and recorded Miller’s CD, “Split Decision”. Bone was in the first house band at B.B. King’s in Memphis, and played with David Lynn Jones in the 1980s and 90s.
Miller taught himself guitar and started playing in a band in college. One of his bandmates introduced him to Ron Helm, a well-known figure in Arkansas music production. Helm, cousin and good friend of legendary Band musician & actor Levon Helm, has been in the music business for decades. Besides writing, or producing top-charting songs of his own (Cody Jinks “Church at Gaylor Creek” codyjinks.com) , Helms introduced Miller to Jones & Bone.
Says Helm, “We attended the same church and he (Matthew) talked to me about music. He was aware that I had written songs with some of the best writers. I was impressed with his ability to write high quality songs.” As their friendship continued, Miller shared with Helm: “he kept hoping that he could do an album… one Sunday after church I told him to ‘get ready’ – I was going to produce his album at our recording studio. We co-wrote the title track ‘Split Decision’ and also ‘Lost and Found’. The remaining ones were MCM songs (written by Matthew Charles Miller),” says Helm. “I consider Matthew Charles Miller to be a great writer.”
Matthew does not fit into anyone’s box, and defines his own existence. He is cut from the same cloth as the great writers of our time. Matthew Charles Miller may just be the best singer songwriter that you have probably never heard. Come to the Commodore Hotel on Friday, July 28 and see for yourself as Matthew Charles Miller performs songs from his debut CD release “Split Decision.”
Producer Ron Helm will also be in attendance.
